Monarch migration

The monarch butterflies are migrating southward, and have passed up the milkweeds in favor of joining the bumblebees that have taken up temporary residence in our flowering Seven Sons tree (heptacodium miconioides).

    We’ve seen more Monarchs this year than several years combined. It has been wonderful.

    Now there’s something a need to look up – a Seven Sons tree! My paternal grandfather, who died before I was born, was English, and his name was Henry John Septimus Hall – a seventh son. Marvelous.
