We’ve been nibbling on the few shoots of asparagus that have made their way up, our self-restraint finally rewarded with enough to make a meal of.

  1. Norma Chang says:

So fresh and tender, nothing like the taste of home grown asparagus, so sweet and delicate tasting. Will the purple asparagus stay purple after cooking or does it turn green?

  2. Lrong says:

Our green asparagus is also coming up… have not tried growing the purple type yet… does it taste the same?

    • leduesorelle says:

The purple ones seem to develop thicker spears than the green variety, the difference seems would be from having meatier texture, but still tastes like asparagus!

  3. Oh you lucky people! I would have loved to have grown my own but just have to buy locally to enjoy this wonderful vegetable…

    • leduesorelle says:

We started growing it only because buying it locally was so difficult at the time. Since then, it’s become more available, but is still one of the first things to sell out at the farmers’ market!

  4. Barbie says:

Oh, purple/burgandy spears – how extraordinary!

    • leduesorelle says:

We planted both because I couldn’t decide between the two. Turns out, the purple ones seem to be more vigorous!

  5. Julie says:

Yum! And so pretty too! I’m sure you’ve had to wait very patiently for this harvest- enjoy!
